چکیده

We study infrared contributions to semihard parton-parton interactions by considering an effective charge whose finite infrared behavior is constrained by a dynamical mass scale. Using an eikonal QCDbased model in order to connect this semihard parton-level dynamics to the hadron-hadron scattering, we obtain predictions for the proton-proton (pp) and antiproton-proton (p̄p) total cross sections, σ tot , and the ratios of the real to imaginary part of the forward scattering amplitude, ρpp;p̄p. We discuss the theoretical aspects of this formalism and consider the phenomenological implications of a class of energydependent form factors in the high-energy behavior of the forward amplitude. We introduce integral dispersion relations specially tailored to relate the real and imaginary parts of eikonals with energydependent form factors. Our results, obtained using a group of updated sets of parton distribution functions, are consistent with the recent data from the TOTEM, AUGER, and Telescope Array experiments.

Self-Screened Parton Cascades

The high density of scattered partons predicted in nuclear collisions at very high energy makes color screening effects significant. We explain how these screening mechanisms may suppress nonperturbative, soft QCD processes, permitting a consistent calculation of quark-gluon plasma formation within the framework of perturbative QCD. We present results of a model calculation of these effects inc...

We present a QCD-based approach to the endpoint region of the lepton spectrum in B̄ → Xu l ν̄ decays. We introduce a genuinely nonperturbative form factor, the shape function, which describes the fall-off of the spectrum close to the endpoint. The moments of this function are related to forward scattering matrix elements of local, higher-dimension operators. We find that nonperturbative effects a...

Investigating the high energy QCD approaches for prompt photon production at the LHC

We investigate the rapidity and transverse momentum distributions of the prompt photon production at the CERN LHC energies considering the current perturbative QCD approaches for this scattering process. Namely, we compare the predictions from the usual NLO pQCD calculations to the the color dipole formalism, using distinct dipole cross sections. Special attention is paid to parton saturation m...

We discuss novel QCD phenomena in pA collisions at LHC energies such as the possibility to invesigate the behaviour of hard processes at x as low as 10 −7 , signals for onset of the black body limit in the hard processes and in the nucleon fragmentation, multijet production. 1. Physics motivations The proton-ion collisions at LHC will be qualitatively different from those at fixed target energi...

Talk : First Workshop on Forward Physics and Luminosity Determination at the LHC †

An attempt is made to summarize the discussion at the Workshop, except for the panel discussion on the ability of the LHC detectors to accommodate forward reactions. The Workshop focused on two main topics. The first topic was forward physics at the LHC. Predictions were made for forward reactions, including elastic scattering and 'soft' diffractive processes, in terms of (multi) Pomeron exchan...
